4mo keeps waking up as he rolls over all night

Hi,

My 4mo old has never been a good sleeper. He wakes up every two hours to nurse and fall back to sleep. I've been swaddling him as it seems to help him sleep longer. But since he learnt how to roll over, he is so much more wakeful. I wasn't able to swaddle him as he was too squirmy. So he has been waking up every hour for the last few days and he always wants to nurse back to sleep. In the middle of night, he keeps flip over and gets on his stomach and cries. Is there a way for me to make him sleep longer? Is it still possible to keep swaddling him? He sleeps with me in our King bed and he moves so much that I can't sleep very well. Should I put him in his crib? Will it help him not to move very much at night? Thanks.

You could try to put him in the crib, can't hurt to see if it works. My suggestion is that daytime rolling exercises while awake is the best thing to do. This gets him used to rolling, and not being afraid of rolling. A lot of babes go through this fear of being woken up by rolling if they are not used to it, so during the day, do tummy time and let him roll, encourage it several times so he gets used to it. I would also forgo swaddling, since he is getting bigger and go with a halo sleepsack instead. You can find some nice ones on ebay used but in good condition.

My DD started doing something similar. She would flip to her stomach in her sleep, then at some point wake up, realize she was on her stomach, and push up with her arms. She didn't know how to settle back into sleep on her stomach. She outgrew that within a month or so. Now she prefers her stomach and even falls asleep on it.
