Flavoring Water?

So I recently was in Santa Fe, the hotels there all put things in water so you drink tons.

Since I got home we have had cucumber and limes in the water. I cut up a bunch of strawberries and left them in a large pitcher of water and it was so good! I ended up adding lemon juice and sugar so we had some strawberry lemonaid for dinner.

I also like muddling up a handful of mint before filling a pitcher with water.

Any other ideas for things I can stick in the water?

did you put the limes and cucumber in together?

Watermelon?

Dark purple grapes or cranberries or cherries (chopped or crushed slightly)?

Fennel?

I'm thinking of fruity herbal teas as well - you could make chamomile or rose hip or hibiscus flower tea and chill it, mix it with fruit, too.

I love lime and mint together.

I was going to suggest iced fruity herbal teas too. They taste sweet even though there's no sweetener in them. My kiddos love it too.

I saw a magazine with an ad that had apple slices in water. I might try that.

Pineapple? Any citrus fruit. Maybe kiwifruit. Carambola (star fruit). Probably most melons would be ok. What about basil? We just got some from our local market which has a really strong aniseed-y flavour.

in peru we make lemongrass tea. it's good cold.

also, the celestial seasonings Zinger teas are excellent chilled.

limes, lemons, passion fruit are also quick additions to water.

It is probably best that lemongrass not be discussed. There was a weedeater incident. Apparently dh did NOT know that lemongrass looks just like grass.

If you make homemade strawberry lemonaid, it is really good if you decide to add rum to it.

Love it!

I put a few raspberries in some cheesecloth and squeeze them into the water, and then put a squeeze of lemon, too. That's my favorite right now. And DS loves to eat the squashed raspberry pulp, so we make a nice pair.

I love hibiscus (be sure to make it cold rather than making it hot then chilling it for the best health (to prevent damaging the vit. c))

I also do cucumber, particularly when I make a yogurt dip with cucumber, because I squeeze the juice out of the cucumber and set it aside, and put the juice in water.

I had flavored water once with apples and a stick of cinnamon. It was absolutely delicious!

Try fresh pineapple spears. They are also good in ice tea.
