You're very welcome!!! I think all parents of intact sons should be as proactive as possible in a hospital situation. It's better to be safe, than sorry...

here is my way
first have them start knocking him out to make him drowsy,
then get any iv needed
then you put a dry dipe on right before he goes in with a plastic liner **inside of it** to catch fluids so they can see if he is peeing as he comes out and how much

as he comes out from being under
have them remove the IV BEFORE he wakes
have the nurse double check to see where you are at fluids wise on the bottom end

snuggle

during recovery you can catch the pee that way and they can eyeball it to measure it, basically the nursing staff will just want to make sure he has peed and drank something before you leave outta recovery

Thanks EVERYONE for reminding me how vigilant you have to be! Ds is going in for some procedures this week that are outpatient, and shouldn't involve his bottom at all, but I've learned - very nearly the hard way - just how closely *some* in the medical profession have to be watched. I'm so used to his being intact, I forget that it takes some people by surprise!

Thanks for the link, LauraJean!!
