H1n1

So my dad was over yesterday morning before he went to the Dr and found out he had H1N1. How contagious is it? We did not vax for it by choice, I dissinfected the entire house last night! My daughter sat with him on the couch watching cartoons for a while. He said he only gave her a kiss on the forehead! Can I do anything else besides give her probiotics & a multivitamin?

It's as contagious as any other flu. But there is a good chance you gained immunity last year if you were exposed. If not, for the most part, almost everyone is recovering from h1n1 just fine if they are healthy with no pre-existing conditions. Just keep an eye out for breathing troubles, etc that can be complications of influenza.

Other than probiotics & a multivitamin? She's already been exposed so the best you can do is strengthen her immune system. Make sure she gets a lot of outdoor time to get some vitamin D, keep her hydrated, eat a well balanced diet of whole foods.

I second the vitamin D. Get her plenty of sun exposure without sunscreen since that prevents your body from actually absorbing and utilizing the Vit D. Just make sure she doesn't burn since that's never ideal. If you aren't able to give her a bunch of additional sun exposure, you might consider supplementation with a good D3 vitamin. That's what we do in the winter when the sun is not readily available It helped a ton for our family last winter which was the first year we were supplementing properly (i.e. 2000 IU's for our kids aged 5, 4, & 2 and 4000-5000 IU's for hubby & I). Studies show it is extremely helpful at both preventing & healing colds and flus as well as many other health issues like depression, at least 17 cancers, etc.

In addition, I'm not sure if this works for the H1N1 virus but I have found Cold Eeze to be very effective at the onset of a cold/flu. It is available just about anywhere in the US (we recently moved to Canada and I was dismayed to discover that it doesn't seem to be available here Good thing there's the internet so I can order some in! ) Also, there is the homeopathic remedy oscillococcillum which is quite effective too. Good luck! Hope she is fine and doesn't catch it at all but if she does, I'm sure she will recover just fine and have strengthened her immune system in the process
