letting go of the landline pro and con? - Page 3

I like my landline!! I have only and emergency cell phone - five dollars per month.
I have a corded landline! cordless are not good.
I am trying to figure out how to lower the cost of my landline though. I need long distance though. Any suggestions??

In the year prior to us dumping landline service (in 1999) I recall our landline being down due to storms several times.
Yep the phone line still works if the power is out, you need to have a cord phone not a cordless phone (because they use electricity.)

My landline is much more comfortable to hold against my ear. So I talk on that, rather than my cell, when I can.

Dd is 6 and is just starting to really want to talk on the phone. I don't know how I'd teach dd about "phone etiquette" on a cell, though I'm not sure why it's different. Are you okay with your kids using cells on a regular basis? I would love to cut the land line, but I don't because of dd. Then again, maybe land lines will be a thing of the past by the time she's a few years older, anyway.

I like to have a backup in case of storms since we live in Tornado Alley which is why my husband and I keep our landline in addition to our cell phones. Also, I don't like giving out my cell number to every company/business, whatever, etc. My cell is for friends and family only.

ETA: My daughter feels the same way and keeps the bare bones landline along with her and her husband's cells.

Make sure the cell quality is good before you drop your landline. A friend of mine is cell only and its okay when she's out and about but from her house the quality is iffy. Sometimes I can't hear her, sometimes there's an echo, and she's tried a few different phones with no improvement.

I'm 29 and have rarely in my adult life had cause to use a land line. I tend to assume that landline use skills are not going to be critical for my kids.

we just dropped our landline and I hate not having one. so much so that we are probably going to add one here soon

i was raised to have one just for emergency purposes. everyone always thought I was crazy-

then when the "blackout of 2003" happened- allllll my friends showed up at my house to call family because no ones cell phones worked for two days.

i was ALSO the only 22 year old with a transistor radio. lol. I was raised to be prepared :P
