I would be careful. It wasn't really anything I didn't expect. Just highlighted how big the loss of a mom is.

That was exactly what I was worried about. I did not watch last night because I was petrified. I might not be able to do it this season. UGH!

It looks like the rest of the season will be less focused on her death, though I guess it will probably be a major theme still. The previews made it look like it will be people suspecting dexter for Rita's death and dexter trying to take care of kids and fitting in his "lifestyle."

It was really tough to watch, but good. Did anybody else have a moment of glee when Michael C. Hall walked into the funeral parlor and the guy said "Sorry for your loss" ? It was sad and uncomfortable, but the throw back to Six Feet Under made me smile.

I have never watched six feet under... maybe I should!

Oh, you should! I didn't watch it regularly until it was all over, but it was one of the best series I've ever watched.

Maybe I'll save it for when Dexter is over and I don't know what to do with myself

It really was. I don't think I've ever cried that much watching a TV show.

What a sad episode...I was almost relieved when Dexter went off the deep end in that bathroom. I was really concerned about him up til that point. The six feet under *sorry about your loss* made me crack up, too!!!!! LOL

Is it me, or does Quinn look so much different this season? Nothing like himself?? I had to take a triple look to notice that was quinn. and if youre counting, its number 7 for Debra.(yes, I am counting. I counted Lundy twice though)

Quinn does look different, and I don't know what it is. Like maybe he's lost some weight or something? It was nice to see MCH looking healthy (well, as healthy as someone playing a serial killer whose wife just died can look!) again - it was hard seeing him at the end of last season in the interviews looking so thin and frail. I guess his cancer recovery must be going well.

Whenever I listen to that Sia song, I always think of the finale...miss that show!

Loved the funeral home/6 feet under reference!

Last night was sad...DH was mocking me for crying. But I was just so shook up from last season...I will never be able to see John Lithgow the same...EVER. No more Footloose or 3rd Rock for me. lol

Another big fan of the six feet under reference in the funeral home. That made me smile as well. To the pp who hasn't seen six feet under be prepared for a TOTALLY different Michael C Hall. This guy is the real deal, lol, David is a world apart from Dexter. Still though... I think SFU is better than Dexter.

It kind of surprised me that no one (maybe besides Debra) thought he was broken up about her. I kind of thought he just looked numb and in shock the entire time, except in the bathroom. I agree with Harry was the first human thing he did.

Does anyone feel like Quinn is a little much like Dokes?? Hopefully this will go a different way, it has to right?

yeah, I hope so. He does seem to be very suspicious of Dexter, of course.

I wonder if he and Debra will have a more serious relationship?

I'm kind of hoping this is just maybe a sub plot in the real meat of the season... there has to be some twist or something. If we know anything about Debra, the relationship is doomed but hey, stranger things have happened!

I agree here - I think he looked like he was acting just about how I might act if I came home and found my husband brutally murdered and one of my kids crying in a pool of his blood. I understand how the 911 call could sound bad, but given the shock and the career that Dexter has and and what he went through as a child and just his general personality (serial killer aside), it isn't really that far outside the norm for him to have reacted that way. I can't remember - did he ever tell Debra that Harry found him in the shipping container after witnessing his mother's death?

Even him saying "It was me" could have easily been a delayed reaction to the police officers coming and asking if he made the call. Anyhow, the only person I could really understand thinking he didn't care was Rita's daughter, because he was really cold when he told them - but I think the adults should have been able to see that as shock. And, as an aside, as a sister - there's no way I would let my brother or sister tell their kids something like that without having me or another family member there to help. Even though Dexter told her he didn't want her there, I couldn't believe she actually left. At the least, I think she should have stayed and distracted the kids so Dexter could talk to Rita's parents privately. I also couldn't believe anyone would leave someone so affected, in such a daze, alone to care for a baby.

I agree with all of you who think Dexter did seem shaken up about Rita. I was wondering the same thing. I mean, what do they expect him to do?
I watched all but the last six minutes last night. (stupid computer.) Anyway, it bothered me that people didn't seem as supportive of Dexter as they should've been. And Rita's parents didn't react the way I would if my daughter were brutally murdered. IDK. I feel like people are being too hard on Dexter.

As for the Quinn and Debra thing, it was only a matter of time, IMO.

I cried. Actually bawled when I watched the finale last season. It really bothered me (which is odd on it's own, I'm a veteran horror movie fan, violence usually doesn't effect me so deeply). I felt bad for days. Dexter was my favorite show. I loved the writing, the characters, everything for 5 seasons but I really don't think I want to watch this season. I really think I'm done.
