Hi, a friend of mine is pregnant with her third baby and has formula fed her previous two. She breastfed a very short while (a week or two) with her first but hated it so much she then switched to pumping but didn't like that either. She tried again with her second and gave up after a short while as well as she again hated the feeling.
She knows that breast is best but she has severely sensitive nipples to the point that she said it makes her feel sick to her stomach when she tries to nurse. Her partner is not allowed to touch her nipples either as she gets the same feeling. She and I were talking about my experience with tandem nursing and we got to talking about how challenging bfing was for me during pregnancy with sensitivity and how it just felt irritating and "gross" for lack of a better word, she said that's exactly how it is for her when she tried. So I can understand the feeling, it was such a challenge to make it through the last trimester of my pregnancy for nursing my toddler but we did and he's still happily nursing (and I'm enjoying it again as well) at 27 months along with his nearly 7 month old sister.
So... she's asked for my advice and I said I'd look into it for her.... any suggestions other than seeking out a lactation consultant which I'll recommend as well as attending a LLL. Anyone have a similar experience?
THank you!
