PTU while breastfeeding. DD needs her blood drawn? Should I wean?

My endo said I could go on PTU since I profusely rejected RAI. But not before lecturing me for a good 10 minutes of how the decision I was making was hurting my child, she could have thyroid problems at 3 years old, and just generally patronizing me. She said my dd would need to have her blood taken every month.

My daughter is 2 and only breastfeeds 1-2 times a day. I previously read in multiple sources on the internet that PTU was generally safe. I am starting at 300 mg until my FT4 is in range (as per Elaine Moore's suggestion). What should I do? Should I say I talked to the ped and she said it was okay? DD's ped is clueless. Should I print out all the material and try to find Dr. Hale's book saying that its safe and classified as L2? Should I encourage weaning?

I am unfamiliar, are you referring to Propylthiouracil for hyperthyroidism?
If so, perhaps you could print this info out and discuss with your endocrinologist. The studies are at the bottom of the page.

Perhaps your could begin at the lowest dosage and titrate as needed to try to minimize any risks (?)
