HWOT questions

For those who have used hwot, I have a couple questions.

First off, I was wanting to begin cursive with my 2nd grader. So, I was planning on getting the grade 3 cursive book and teacher's guide.

However, I want to do a review of printing first. So, I was also going to get the grade two printing workbook for students.

So, I am really curious about teacher's guides. Do you think I need them at all--and if so, do you think I should get both the 2nd and 3rd grade guides?

Finally, I want my fifth grader to work on handwriting this year as well since she seemed to have better penmanship in first grade than she has now. I saw the Can-Do print and the Can-Do cursive. They seem to be the same book (with the grammar/latin/etc) except that one is print and the other cursive. I don't even care if the grammar etc is included, but I want to get something for her for penmanship. Before, I always "planned" on having her work on it, but it never really got done. I hope that by having a 'program' that I will move through it. She writes a lot--just very sloppy.

So, would you order both Can-Do books? Or since girls will be reviewing Printing--maybe just the grade 2 book and have them both follow it. And then go with the Can-Do cursive for the older?

Any thoughts?

Isn't the 2nd grade book half print and half cursive? If so, you might like that. I don't think I have an old 2nd grade book around here and my 3rd grader switched series. (this new series he is on is great for those who are better at handwriting, just need a little help or review). My 6 yr old is still using HWOT, but he is in the kinder book, not the 2nd grade one. Don't know if I have helped.

You know what? Zaner-Bloser has great books where they are transitioning in to cursive so they spend the first half of the year on print and the 2nd half on cursive.

Is that what your third grader is using?
