Glucose test screen came back 196- anyone else that high but not have GD?

I just took the 1 hour glucose test that screens for GD and I failed miserably (my score was 196, just four points below the level where they automatically DX you with GD).

Has anyone else had a screen that was as high as 196 but still tested negative for GD??

I'm wondering if my eating the day of had something to do with that high score. My appt wasn't until 2 pm, so I drank the glucola at 1 pm as instructed. Now, they told me not to fast, so I didn't. I avoided carbs and had just eggs for breakfast and a handful of nuts. But then by 12, I was starving and had a very small green salad with lots of onions and tomatoes, with a little tiny bit of Italian dressing. Also had a stick of gum (sugar free) and lots of water.

I've 'failed' the screener before but then passed the actual test with my first baby. Didn't have an issue with my 2nd or 3rd. Now it's my fourth and I'm older, fatter, etc. and really hoping I don't have GD.

Any words of wisdom from your experiences?

I don't think it sounds like what you ate would have had much negative effect on the test. Most women who fail the 1 hour pass the 3 hour. 196 is pretty high, but I wouldn't lose hope that you'll pass the 3 hour. Good luck!

I wasn't as high as 196, but I was at 179, so still pretty high.

I didn't have GD. My OB figured it was something I ate that day (mostly protein but looking back, there were some carbs) but still wanted me to take the 3 hour test.

Not one of my blood draws for the 3 hour were above normal.

I don't know how you usually are with food, but I know my body doesn't deal well unless I snack frequently. Eating as little as you did, then drinking the glucola would probably have sent my blood sugar high, even with a high-protein breakfast and not many carbs. But that's just me and my ridiculously hungry-all-the-time body, even when not pregnant.

The 3-hr is a fasting test, right? Yuck. I'm sorry you have to do that, but I wish you luck and non-GD numbers.

Mine was high too. In the 180's, I believe. The midwife I was seeing suggested that I decline the 3hr test and buy a diabetic finger pricker to check my levels. I had to keep a food log, but in the 2 weeks that I had to do it, I only went above the limit like twice. My midwife said that the 1hr was a fluke and we never talked about it again. Hth!
