Help! I'm frozen!

Okay, every time I go to place an order, I end up rethinking it. This is driving me crazy!!!

I have a week old baby who is over 9 lbs and want to CD him. Problem is I only have a budget of 300-400$ that I am hoping will cover the entire CD experience. But once I got what I thought I liked worked out on paper, it used all the money and mostly for just the small stage!

I thought I would get some prefolds, fitteds and covers for now and try some AIO's/OS and go to them for after the NB stage.

So my hesitency is this: I have chunky, fast growing babies who are 20 lbs by 4 mos. (At least my last 3 were) Also, I want be able to actually dress the kiddo in real clothes that aren't huge on him. My kids already have to size up for their age which makes pants long on them and I don't want to get a whole new wardrobe or way over size their clothes just to keep them covered in the winter. l know some just dress them in a dipe and shirt which I'm fine with in summer at home, but not out and about or winter.

Is there any hope for me or should I just give up now???

maybe try something OS, but still kind of trim like BumGenius pockets. They make the new 4.0 ones w/ snaps & I hear those are good for babes w/ large thighs. our BG 3.0's started fitting DD around 8-9ish lbs.

for what you want to spend you could get 2doz. that should be a good sized stash & w/ the new sizing they should last you until undies time.

I have never had to size up w/ clothing when DD was wearing BG's. We do however prefer fabrics like cotton knits & fleece that have a bit of stretch.

That's good to know...it's all just so hard to figure out when there are so many options! It's so daunting just to figure out where to start.

So maybe I need to just order a couple of different OS/AIO's and see if I like any of those?

Any others with experience just using OS AIO's throughout?

Any other advice? Thoughts? Suggestions? Help me make this work!

have you thought about buying just 1 of each to actually try and see how you like the dipe/manuf./snaps/velcro and whatnot. I had to do that the first time because I had major commitment issues but really I figured it was wasting less time just to do that and actually try them out and see what I liked which ended up with a eclectic stash (prefolds, fitted covers, one size motherease)

I have...I was planning on that and then felt I was spending all my money on trials--is there a place that offers FS on small orders? I don't want to spend 7$ shipping on one prefold (LL or GMD). I am ordering a couple dif dipes from KC--a OSFB, BG4.0, and a thirsties duo. These all seem to be well liked.

Any other words of wisdom? I really appreciate any and all input!

You can try nickisdiapers.com

They have sample package deals for many kinds of diapers (pockets, OS). They also have a 15 day *Try, Wash, Return* program where you can do a trial run with any diaper, then return it (at your cost) for full store credit.

You can usually find a discount code for 10-15% off if you do a google search.

Also, if your babies grow as fast as you say, I'd personally just do a few OS dipes + mainly medium pockets/fitteds/prefolds (whichever you like best) and pretty much skip trying to cloth diaper for the small stage. DS2 is 9 months and has been in medium FBs since he was about 3 1/2 months. (He was 9lb 10 ozs at birth)

If you do decide to buy small prefolds/fitteds/pockets, keep in mind that you can turn around and sell them for at least 1/2 - 3/4 what you paid for them, which can go toward buying the next size up.

I had actually thought about waiting til he could fit into OS pockets/aios--and just ordering a few at a time to try, but then I keep reading about other's NB stashes and I get insanely jealous wanting to CD NOW!!! Also, I am shelling out 20$ week on sposies--not happy about that. I found a couple of sites that sell prefolds seperately with free shipping so I may order one or two of those and a cover (thirstees or blueberry OS) just to see...so difficult to decide!!!

You should be able to fit a one size pocket diaper on your baby now, or within a week or so. They will be bulky right now, but before you know it, they'll fit. If you are thinking your baby will be 20lbs at 4 months, I would definitely just buy one size pockets and medium sizes. I would just make them work the next few weeks. We have Bum Genius 3.0 and really like them.

perhaps you are not considering this, but i thought i'd offer any way . My kids are like yours (chunky, lol). With my youngest, she was born at over 9 lbs too and is now about 16 at barely 3 months. We skipped the infant stage all together and just got the 15-30lbs. size prefolds + covers. You could probably get about 3 dozen prefolds + 6 covers or so for your budget comfortably, or under.
I don't have experience with AIO, but i was on a strict budget, and am happy with my stash.

good luck!

Have you looked at diaperswappers? You might be able to find a mama with a mixed stash she's trying to sell... that would allow you to try a little bit of this and a little bit of that. That's what I did.

Here is my personal opinion on what might work best for you and baby: AIO's are certainly convenient, but they take awhile to dry, and you can't take the insert out if you get stinkies, which seems to inevitably happen. I would go with pockets. We've been using FuzziBunz OS and sized since my DD was about 3 months old (she is also chunky) and they've been fantastic. The OS will fit babies 7lbs up to 35+lbs, and they get REALLY TINY!! They aren't really all that bulky on babies because each diaper comes with a newborn insert as well as a regular insert, so you can get the best fit for your LO. They are also extremely adjustable (leg elastics and waist elastics) so you should be able to get a perfect fit no matter what stage your baby is at. The cover part of the diapers dry really fast, regardless of whether you put them in the dryer or outside in the sun, and the new inserts are 4 layers and super absorbent. I buy all of mine here: www.fuzzibunzstore.com because they have free (and fast) shipping, plus a rewards program so you can earn credit towards any other items on the website (or more dipes!). It couldn't hurt to check them out! Oh, and if you have any concerns about them, their customer service is great. I've called them on a few occasions with random questions and they're always very friendly and helpful. Hope this helps!

nak ordered a osfb

are bg4.0 pockets?
Yep, they are. They fit a little different than FB, have a suede cloth liner instead of fleece and adjust from one size to another w/snaps instead of buttonhole elastic like FB OS.

I've tried just about every one size on the market. The three that have worked the best for us are: Happy Heiny's (going strong two years in.), Rumparooz (starting to look like bikinis but they are incredibly absorbent and they will hold in ANY poop mess), and Knickernappies (also really absorbent, but they don't quite have the amazing poop containing skillz of the Rumparooz--no serious problems though).

The Fuzzibunz are certainly decent diapers, but they aren't as good for all night or super heavy wetters in my experience. I had BG 3.0 and the elastic gave out after a year of hard use so I'm pretty burnt on them. I could go through every other brand and problem we've had but it would get overwhelming.

Now you tell me!

I've got a OS FB AND BG4.0 on the way--should I wait for those or add a couple of other OS pocket-types (like the RaR, Knickers, a nd HH?)

Personally I think you should get 2 dozen flat diapers, 4 snappis and 6 Bummis pull on whisper pants in newborn- they run big- or 3 NB and 3 small. These work AMAZING under clothing. SUPER trim, easy to wash and dry super fast.

With the one size diapers you bought, they come with microfiber inserts. Microfiber gets stinky, and then causes discouragement and frustration. I HATE microfiber, and refuse to use it.

IF you want trim one size AIO's that have all natural inners, look into Bottombumpers. They are coming out with a one size AIO diaper on 9/1. I have their sized AIO's and they are what we use under clothing. They are the best, hands down.

The flat diapers should work for quite some time. They are amazing. Id get them from GMD or LL. They are cheap enough where after you buy them you will still have enough money left over for the AIO's.

HTH!

We started to have leaks at night once DD got a little older, but to remedy that we added a hemp doubler, which hardly adds any bulk, but ups the absorbency a lot. No leaks! And the new FBs have the 4 layer insert, so we can use them at night by themselves and we still don't have any leaks.

that's good to know about the Fb. I am also interested in the bottom bumpers OS that come out in Sept. I am thinking about a dozen flats, but honestly, thinking of figuring out the folds stresses me out a bit.

Okay, I actually have two hands so I can type!

Does this seem reasonable to you?

I've got the OSFB and BG4.0 on the way. I could order from LL:
doz flats
2pk dappi sm
1 prowrap sm
1 OS blueberry coverall (cuz I can't resist!!!)
1 snappi
50$

then save the rest of my $ for OS pockets once I figure that out...and if I love flats or pf I can add covers as I've got a 20$ here or there.

With the rest of my $, I could get a 15 or so OS pockets and then add to my stash one dipe or so every month...
