Non-waterproof diapers for newborn

Let me begin by saying I don't like prefolds. I am pregnant, due in December, but I have already been hospitalized twice for preterm contractions, so I'm trying to plan ahead in case baby comes early. We didn't even start using cloth with DS until we started EC when he was 10 months old, and I still don't understand everything about the different materials, so I need some help.

I have quite a few waterproof diapers, as well as the Grovia AI2's(so I can use the shell as a cover). I want some non-waterproof diapers for around the house. I'm having another boy and the thought of a little hose without a diaper scares me! I was looking at the Kissaluvs. I have seen them in person and love how soft they are. But will they absorb the pee enough that it won't leak everywhere? I don't mind if they're wet on the outside and if I get slightly wet, but I don't want a puddle leaking out. I assume I would want the organic cotton/hemp since the fleece/cotton say they're more absorbent?

Any other suggestions on non-waterproof dipes? I also would prefer to have the ones with their own closure attached--I'm going to have a 2 year old and a newborn and be by myself with them 2 weeks at a time--I'm not going to want to keep my eyes on Snappis and things!

I used KL0's and never had pee leak out. It got to the outside, but never the puddles you're talking about.
Ds is a fairly light wetter now at about 1yo, and we usually use thin off brand fitteds- we got leaks sometimes, but if I lay a cloth wipe inside, that keeps leaks in. I have one Tiny Tushies fitted that I use without the snap in liner, and we never have leaks through that one. I didn't have it when ds was a nb, but have read that it fits.

I'm using kissaluvs this time as well size 0 and 1. I also ordered some bamboo velour fitted w/ hemp inclosed soakers and snap closure from sassy cloth.

I have a dozen Bumkins AIOs that are exactly what you would need... after two babies, the waterproofing has disintegrated enough so you would know if they are wet immediately, but not enough for significant leakage. But obviously, they are not sold that way, . The Kissaluvs, or most fitteds, should be fine for the early months. I know with my kids it wasn't until they were almost a year that they peed in large enough amounts to significantly wet a fitted diaper.

I loved loved loved my kissaluvs and gave them away after DS and never got them back... and was sad about that. Then I'd been given so many fuzzibunz that I just couldn't justify buying new kissas (we have to live frugally).

I do also love my Motherease Sandy's we only had the larges from DS though so I had to wait until DD got big enough. And they have held up like a DREAM. very well-made diapers. They show no real wear.

I know you said you don't like prefolds, but I always found them great with my newborn. Pad-folding is quick and works great till they start crawling. If you plan on changing frequently you can even cut the prefolds into thirds to make them less absorbent, or use pad-folded muslins. Go skimpy on the padding with a fleece cover and you'll still be able to feel when baby is wet. Way cheaper and easier to take care of than buying fitteds!

For the Kissaluvs, does it matter if I get the organic or the cotton fleece? I want to make sure that the baby feels the wetness, and that I can feel or see it from the outside as well.

Thanks for all the help!
