What forms do you fill out? are they required for your state?

We have a new principal who is in charge of our paperwork. (I am in NY)

She sent back a letter asking for our IHIP (which is done) and several forms. One is their IHIP, which I don't use and never have used, one is a cover sheet showing the dates for the quarterlies and the third is a "intent" to homeschool form.

I already sent in my Intent to Homeschool letter, which she noted that she received, so why would I need to fill out the other "intent" form?

We have always sent in our own forms with all the correct information and required information filled out but we never include more than what is required.

what is required in your state? do you use their forms?

I do not use my school district's form because they claim they entitled to more than the law allows. I do exactly what the law requires, and no more.

I'm in NY state. I sent in the letter of intent earlier in the summer.

They sent their IHIP and quarterly forms, but the thought of handwriting it all seemed pointless to me. I don't think it had anything on it that wasn't required.

I followed the same format and used the same wording for all the headings and such on my own word document instead. This way I have an electronic copy and they get things in the order they'd like. I sent our IHIP a month or so ago and got a "compliance letter" about 2 weeks later saying everything was up to date.

You don't have to use their IHIP forms nor their quarterly dates, but they "prefer" it. (I'm in NYC and ours actually say that right on it.)

I would personally just send your IHIP and include the quarterly dates you intend to use and a line saying Letter of Intent sent with the date it was sent.

Nothing's required for CT, so I don't file anything.

In Wisconsin, we are required to submit a a specific form to the state. It asks only for required information, which is what forms ought to do, IMO.

Ive already checked the homeschool laws were we live but its not really going to help since we are military overseas. Over where we are all I have to do is write a letter and submit it to my husband's CO (commanding officer) showing intent to homeschool, the children's names/ages/grades and when we plan on starting/stopping. It needs to be done every year before the first day of school. Oh and my husband has to sign it since hes my "sponser" over here. Thats it, its super easy to homeschool over here.

We submit a Letter of Intent which includes: birth certificate, GED/HS Diploma copy, any school/extracurriculars we want to participate in, etc.. Nothing too out of the ordinary.
We are also instructed (by law, not the school) to keep school records, but I know a lot of people don't and most districts never ask.

Nothing - we're in TX and nothing is required.

Gotta love Texas!

I HS'd in a couple states. Basically all I had to do was notify them that I was HSing.

Karen, I would do nothing at this point. Just plan to send in the quarterlies when you indicated on your IHIP. If they contact you again, send a copy of the regulations with the pertinent sections highlighted. Have you heard from other locals who are having the same problem? I'll have to ask my cousin, who is in your district, if she received something similar.
