Weird poop day=Mystery rash=Needing Advice

Today my 14mo ds had SIX! dirty diapers. Normal poops (solid), just crazy how many. We cloth diaper and up til now have had practically no problem with rashes, etc. By the third changing this afternoon, however, he cried at the touch of the gentle wet wipe, and the redness that was barely noticeable right around his little rectum was starting to spread a bit.

Normally I use cornstarch in a sock to pat him a little and make sure he's dry before I put on the new diaper. This evening though, on the fourth, fifth, and sixth changes I kept him naked after the cleaning (just water and a washrag by this point) and cornstarch to really let him dry out good. Now here's the weird part. When I'd check his little bottom after he'd been naked for like 10-15min, there was wetness between his cheeks...like condensation kinda. One time I even set him up to play so he was squatted so air could really get up there to dry him out. Still the wetness. This is such a mystery to me, and my little guy's so pitiful about his tender bum

I don't know what the deal is with the wetness, and the redness is larger now and long in shape like on both sides down his crack. It's not bumpy or "lacey" in pattern. Maybe a little swollen though. Any ideas on what this might be? He jumps when I even try to touch it. I'd put some type of cream on it (any recommendations?) if I could get it to dry completely out.

Are you breastfeeding? Did either of you eat anything unusual?

I am breastfeeding. Last night I did eat something way different than the usual: lentil soup and lamb. I had some lemonade with rosewater and saffron in it.

It could be any of those things, or... it could be the cornstarch. You might try not using the cornstarch and see if that helps. Sounds like you also need something to take care of the existing rash as well. Have you tried sitting him down in a bath with oatmeal or Aveeno? If that doesn't help, you could try a vinegar soak - apple cider vinegar if you have it. That would help if it's yeast.
