Travelling to Another Country (Resort) While Pregnant?

My baby is due next March when my son (only child) will be 7. For a few years I have wanted to take my son and I on a special vacation together. My whole family went to Jamaica over a year ago and we LOVED it! I am now pregnant and I am wondering if travelling to a resort in another country while pregnant is unwise? In a way, I am wanting to go even more because this would be our last vacation together with him as an only child, with special time for just him and I. I'm a single mom so I may consider taking my mother as well in order for there to be another adult there (as I'm still debating the safety of travelling alone with a child to another country). The first issue though would be whether the flights themselves would be harmful to the baby, with exposure to radiation... there would be most likely two flights there and two back. Also, the discomfort of travelling pregnant may be tiring. I was also thinking about the possibility of being in another country and adjusting to their water, etc. I never really have problems while travelling but I always take my supplements, such as oil of oregano, etc, just in case. Some of those things I could not take while pregnant, and I would worry about possibly becoming sick and bringing harm to the baby. I'm thinking maybe it would be easier to travel next fall when the baby is about 8 months old... however it would be SO much more complicated with a baby and it obviously wouldn't be a vacation where I could focus solely on my son, and I won't get that chance for a looooong time, if ever. I'm also thinking about Disneyland or something like that, but that could be more tiring with all the walking, plus I couldn't go on rides, lol! Any thoughts or advice on doing big vacations while pregnant?

Depending on where you'd be in the pregnancy I say go for it! If your mom can come for support that would be perfect. I travelled to Spain when I was 17weeks and came back at 20 weeks. My midwife told me it was a great idea. I had no problems but it was a lot more tiring. I never suffer from jet lag but I did that trip. Having an extra adult would be handy.

Look into insurance before you go, however. They can have conditions for pregnant women. I live in Canada and I couldn't find any place that would insure me to travel to the States in my third trimester. Jamaica would probably be easier but I'm not sure I'd want to travel during my third trimester anyway

I traveled to Italy when I was 5 months pregnant. It was wonderful...go for it.

DH and I went to Mexico when I was 23 weeks pregnant with my DD. It was perfect. I say go! If you're having a healthy, normal pregnancy, the second tri is a great time to travel and poses no serious risks.

No problem! I've traveled all over with DC and think it's a great time! No worries about traveling pregnant either. I may time it so you have the most energy and comfort (second trimester) if possible but wouldn't bat an eye to go other times as well. Have fun!

i went to the bahamas when i was 8-9 weeks pregnant this time.. we flew and then went on a cruise .. brought my then 22 mo old.. the trip was pre-planned (unlike the pregnancy) .. i was extra tired at times and the morning sickness was pretty bad but otherwise it was a great trip, i would totally go as long as you were in the 1st or 2nd trimester.. 3rd tri might be pushing it..
