Any fun back to school ideas?

This is our first ever back to school! My previously hs'ed boys will be going into 4th and 1st grade, and I'd love to think of some cute things to do for them. Morning ideas, snack ideas, after school ideas - any and all would be much appreciated!

We always have a back to school party the night before school. We do a little cake after dinner and sing "happy back to school". Yup we are dorks. We did this when homeschooling too.

I read something about German Shultuetes last year and thought I might try one as this is our first back-to-school too.

Are you looking for a fun tradition for back to school? How about a Schultuete, a German tradition that had been around since the early 1800’s? In Germany a cone given to a child on their first day of school filled with sweets, trinkets and back to school supplies. It’s no wonder this idea has stuck around for centuries!

I put a joke (written on a notecard) in DS's lunchbox the first day of school, and it was such a hit that now I do it every day. I find them online, and I did about ten at once so I don't have to do it every day.

We also did pancake breakfast the first day of school. Have fun!

My kids are starting a new school this year and it is my youngest child's first time in school so we are wanting to celebrate in some way. We will probably just do a pizza supper and a nice dessert or something. I might buy them each a small gift.

Thanks for the great ideas. I am definitely going to do the jokes in the lunchbox, and would like to think of some encouraging words to put in there too, expecially for my 4th grader.

I really need to make sure I have some snacks afterschool.
