I agree. I was thinking more "liberal" as in accepting of all others, loving people regardless of where they are in life, and not preaching about the things the OP wants to avoid hearing on a Sunday morning. They definitely believe the Bible (in it's original manuscripts) is the final, absolute authority, but they also take into consideration the context of what is written and when.

If you're looking for a church that is theologically liberal (as in the Bible is a book to use as a reference, not the infallible Word of God), I would say stick to the Episcopal Church or Universalist Unitarian. There were quite of few people at our former church who didn't believe much of what is written in the Bible, and you're completely free to come to your conclusions... there's no "wrong" way, just "your" way. To give you an example, our associate rector didn't believe in satan or hell, so pretty much anything goes there!!

You could check out the Christian Universalist Association. They list associated congregations here. Many different denominations are included. Then I would check out the web pages of the individual churches and look for words like "praise band", "contemporary music" and "welcoming".

Note that several people have mentioned Unitarian Universalist (which I am) and UCC in this thread. Most of the churches I have attended or heard about in these denominations do not have the worship style you are looking for, but there are exceptions.
