13 month old suddenly not napping

Hi everyone.

The last few weeks have been the hardest of my life. DD is now 1yo and just decided to stop napping. Since she was about 5 months old she has taken a regular nap from 1pm until 3:30 pm without any issues. Her 2yo brother does the same, and it was very important to me to get them on a similar schedule.

About 3 weeks ago, DD started waking up about 45 minutes into her nap. I would go console her and she would settle back down and usually sleep for a while longer. It has just been going downhill from there and now she wakes up about 20 minutes into her nap and no amount of nursing, rocking, cuddling, etc.. will calm her down enough to get her back to sleep.

I am going to loose my mind. I need naptime. I have a 1yo and a 2yo and the only time I have to shower and eat is while they are asleep.

Any ideas? Suggestions? I am at a total loss.

Wow, that's rough -- we have a 6.5 year spacing and it's rough in other ways but I can't imagine a 1 year old not napping. Have you tried putting them in the car and driving them (assuming you have a car), or putting them in a double stroller and walking them or wearing one with the other in a stroller? My dd has been resisting naps and going out always seems to help.

could she be overtired?
i know we're a month younger but dd still very much needs a nap in the am also and does 1.5 hours in the pm as well. if she has a crappy am nap or like yesterday she missed the am nap, it was he*l getting her down for her pm nap although visibly tired, and i had to put her back to sleep after 45 minutes as well.
i know you want them on the same schedule and apparently it's worked up until now but maybe something like a growth spurt just pushed her over the edge???? would she go down somewhere around 2 hours after waking? that's all i could come up with. good luck.

I wouldn't give up. I found that my kids went through cycles where it seemed like they were "giving up the nap". But I just kept doing what I was doing, and viola....they started napping regularly again. It was totally worth the trouble of trying to keep them napping.

She might need an earlier nap or a later one though. I know that when my baby was 13 months old she was still taking two naps- a short morning nap and a longer afternoon nap. Maybe she is overtired by 1 pm?

Hugs, momma...hope you can get this adjusted and have babe back to napping!!

DD2 is 12 months and lately has had a stretch of surviving on a 1/2 hour nap.

Does she seem like she's not getting enough sleep? DD2 seems like she is, on those 1/2 hour nap days, so I try to just roll with it.

Could she be getting molars? I think that's been part of our problem here. Molar #1 is now through, and #2 is just below the surface.

Can you sort out some mini-meals & snacks the night before, that are easy to eat while the kiddos are around? Then use the short time DD is asleep to have your shower? Also, if DS is still asleep, and you just have DD to contend with, can you feed her in the high chair and eat yourself? If if I have a steady stream of items to hand DD2: cup, plate, spoon, fork, wipe, then she will stay happy in the high chair for longer than the time it takes her to eat.
