Just thinking. I know in Ontario it is completely legal to homeschool. My son would only be in JK this fall and technically they aren't required to attend school until grade 1. My question is this: Do I need to send a letter of intent this year??

I am not in Canada, but in the US (california) here, you only need to inform once said child has reached a certain age. Here is is 6 years old. So if in canada it is not until 1st grade, I would not inform until they are at that age. Basically, I would wait the longest that I could

No, certainly not until the Grade 1 year. Even then you may choose to fly under the radar; informing the Ministry is only required if they've ever been registered for school.
