Day Weaning?

I was just here posting last week about night weaning, but I may need to continue with how things seem to be going!

DD just turned 1 and up until about a week ago was getting about 90% or so of all of her nutrition though BM, well like a switch when she turned 1 she seems to have no time to nurse during the day. She is constantly distracted, which was always a bit of an issue, but now it is ridiculous! Even in a quiet room, she is still pulling away. At night she is still eager to nurse and in the early morning, but I have been lucky to get one good session in between 9:00 and 4:00.

She also is not a great eater (solids). She likes everything, but to get her to sit down and eat can be a challenge. It seems like she just cannot be bothered with food. She is pretty small (about 27.5" and 19lbs) I think she is hovering around the tenth percentile, but that may have dropped recently? Still, she is thriving and meeting or exceeding all the her milestones.

I am wondering if this is normal at this age?
I feel like it is too soon.

As long as she's thriving, she'd probably be okay with what she's getting. My DS was at about the same spot a month ago, but one day just started lunging for our food and really picking up the whole swallowing w/o gagging skill.

We haven't night-weaned at all, though since he cosleeps. He's gone through a few periods where he barely nurses, but then he picks up the pace a day or so later. They're so much more efficient when they're older. We were having to give him iron supplements, though, as he had a low birth weight (6lb 4oz)- I'd make sure her bloodwork doesn't show any deficiencies and watch her weight. Just keep offering food & boobs - she'll catch on any day now. I'd give her a little more time, though I know how you feel. I was worried too.

ETA: I wouldn't encourage weaning, just keep letting her nurse & she'll catch onto solids soon enough.

Thanks for this.

It seems like she is just less and less interested, and you are right, I am not even going to think about any sort of weaning process, she's got a handle on that!

Thanks again.

Just posting to say we are there too. DD has no time to nurse during the day anymore - literally just not at all interested. I am pumping to keep up supply in faith that she will come back to it! She nurses once or twice in the night/early morning. Today she nursed twice during the day (before and after nap) but yesterday she didn't nurse at all!

to top it off, she just got teeth the last few weeks and now she's biting. . . ouch!

she is also VERY lightweight - 16 lbs at 15 months - I am constantly concerned about her eating but we just saw the ped. yesterday and he was very reassuring.

I am giving her the milk I pump in a cup. At least she still likes to drink it!
