Potty Training a One Year Old?

How do I go about this? I used to EC for his poops when he was younger, but he's not as obvious now and he normally has his BM before Im able to put him on the toilet. He kind of goes off where no one is and poops, I thought that was a sign for starting? I think we could definitely start, I just have a seat on the toilet but wondering if a child's potty is the right first step so its accessible and easy for him to use on his own, I was kind of against potty's instead of toilets but Ive never potty trained a young toddler. I dont feel hes old enough to quit diapers, as in put him in underwear to speed up the training. Any one have experience with successfully transitioning a young one to the toilet?

At that age I used both a toilet insert and a baby bjorn little potty and let her choose. That gave her a sense of ownership over the situation and of independence. I also taught her the sign for potty which she used to tell us about her needs. She eventually learned to ask us to leave the room, so she also wanted privacy in the bathroom, but learned that the toilet was the place to be.

Good luck!
