Thanks for the great advice ladies!

Tell them that he is on on the autism spectrum and that they will need to do an evaluation so that they will know what services/therapies will be best for him. Keep in mind that this is just a school eval that is specifically used so that the team knows what your child's needs are.

Agree with this.

You want to have it set up that he has a positive experience from the start---and the only way the school can do that is by knowing the whole picture.

For personal space- we use painters tape and floor tape to help kids at that age learn what is OK- for noises they may find a solution to help him channel the noises and/or find a quieter alternative to get that feedback (which is what it can be---a need for auditory feedback or sometimes it is a soothing habit)

I would bring in any important information as well as a list of strengths/weaknesses.

Make sure they are aware of what he struggles with and/or what may be an issue in K. But also emphasis what his strengths are---if he does well with visual picture clues, if he enjoys building things, if he works well with adults, if he is a good artist, etc....

They can use his strengths to help balance out any areas of difficulty. It also makes sure that the conversation stays positive and focused on how to help in him in school!
