This is more about food than it is about school, so that's why I put it here, mods.
Dd is in 3rd grade. They get to have a snack at about 9.30, right before first recess. Dd leaves for school at 7.15, and, like me, she just doesn't have the stomach first thing in the morning to have breakfast. She needs a couple of hours before she wants to eat anything. So... snack is really breakfast for her.
There are a lot of food allergies in her class. At her "table" (desks all put together), there is peanut, tree nut, egg, milk, strawberry, and wheat allergy. Dd, herself, is on a Feingold diet and we eat almost no processed foods because she has a food intolerance to Frankenfood that causes eczema (really severe), headaches, and sleep problems.
So my problem is that everything that I can think of, other than fruit or veg, she can't bring with her to school. Even with the vegetables, she prefers them with dip (which has milk in it) but will eat them without. She needs something with more substance to start her day than just raw fruit and veg, though. The one day I really pushed her to eat breakfast (last year) before she left... she threw up in the car on the way to school. So... making her eat before school is not an option.
So, I'm just trying to think of foods for her to take to school for snack that is not fruit or veg - something of substance. Any ideas? Even hummus and pita are out! Argh!! Yes, I'll still send some fruit and veg, but I think she needs something more with them.
Last year, I would usually send yogurt and fruit, a hard-boiled egg and some toast, cheese and crackers... a protein with something else. Now, I feel like all of my options are gone. The teacher said that she could bring things like Rice Krispy Treats, Ding Dongs, Oreos....
Ummm... NO!
Please help!
