quantity of EBM during the day

dd is 6mo, she is at childcare an average of 9 hours per day. she eats about 7 times per day. i send three 4oz bottles every day and an extra ounce to mix with cereal. so that's a total of 13oz.
for a long time i was sending a 4th 4oz bottle just in case, but she never once drank it. now they just have frozen milk on hand.

so, i'm at the ped for dd's 6 month check up and he asks how much milk she is drinking during the day. i say 12oz. (forgot about the extra ounce). and he's like "well, that's a little on the low side, many babies are drinking as much as 6oz at a time at her age..." so i reply "breastfed babies?" him: "yes, so you know, if she wants more, you should give it to her"

dd is between the 40% and 60% on all measurements, she's peeing/pooping tons and is a chubby, healthy, happy babe.
for some reason, i can't shake the feeling that he was implying that i was underfeeding dd and i'm irritated because i think he's wrong about bf'd babes is drinking 6oz at a time (that would be 18oz in 9 hours).
can someone reassure me that the ped doesn't know what he's talking about?

He doesn't know what he's talking about.

Follow the one oz per hour frame and you are fine!

Many formula fed babies drink 6oz at a time at that age, but not all. I don't know any BF babies that drink 6oz at a time, though I am sure there are some. My DD will sometimes drink 5oz, but that's the max for her Maybe your ped was just making sure that you would give her more if she acted like she wanted more? Not likely though as BF babies don't tend to increase the amount they eat at that age.

My breastfed 3 month old will take 4-5 oz in one sitting in the morning, but I'm guessing that's because she's waking up on a completely empty tummy. From one month of age until a baby starts solids, their BM intake doesn't change much and stays steady around 25 oz per day.

There's a chart at the bottom of this page on kellymom showing how much breastfed babies eat in a day according to the research.

Do you breastfeed her in the morning before you leave and when you return? If yes, did you tell him that? That's still " in the day", right? I can see where he might have thought that your babe was ONLY getting 12 oz a day TOTAL breastmilk, and if you feed her from the breast any additional times, of course, she gets much more than 12 oz a day.

My breastfed baby would take a whopping total of 5 oz plus 1 oz in oatmeal cereal when I wohm from 6- 8 months. He would nurse in the morning with me, then I would take him to his DCP and he would go from 8 am- 4 pm with just the 6 oz of milk. He then nursed when I picked him up at 4 pm, when we got home around 5 pm-6 pm he would nurse constantly and then would nurse again for an hour at 8 pm. He was happy, and healthy baby of over 16 pounds too!!

Average consumption is between 9 -15 oz. from 3-12 m . That is totally within range. The volume of bm doesn't usually increase because of age, just a growth spurt or something.
