My DS has an open wound on his penis and all I can figure is that it's from the cloth diapers. We were on vacation and used disposables, so the rash cleared up. As soon as we started using cloth again, he got the rash, which starts bleeding and then became an open wound. We went back to disposables and it is clearing up. I stripped the diapers and haven't changed any thing care wise for him or the diapers in months. Any suggestions?

He could have a sensitivity to your detergent. It may just be showing up now because the more you are exposed to a substance the worse the reaction. It may have started as a small red patch. The other thing is that he could have a sensitivity to something that he is eating or drinking. With DD #2 we found out that she could not eat or drink Citrus it would cause her to have horrible diaper rash and then she would even break out on her face because of it. It may go away while he is in disposables because it wicks it away so fast.
Sorry I'm not much help just trying to give you my experiences. I would definately contact your pediatrician if changing detergents doesn't help.

I agree with PP-if you have properly stripped your diapers, first check your detergent. Make sure you are using a CD-friendly type, and are not using too much. As I'm sure you know, detergent manufacturers recommend far too much soap for a load. If you use Charlie's Soap(IMO the best for cloth diapers) you can use the directed amount-it only calls for one small scoop per load. However, you mentioned there is no change as far as the soap goes...
Barring that, it may just be-again as suggested by PP-that it's not the diapers themselves, but the fact that they allow more moisture against the skin and of course, urine is irritating. I have found with my son, who has quite sensitive skin, this will be more problematic in warmer weather. If that seems to be the case, I would:
-(duh) check VERY often for a wet diaper and change ASAP
-have your son bare-bottomed whenever possible
-IF using prefolds(?), when possible do not use a cover. If you must cover, try a wool soaker, which will allow his skin to breathe.
-like other PP said, look into stay-dry liners
I hope you get to the bottom of things!!
