did I miss my surge?

Saturday, I tested with an opk and I didn't get a positive, but I got a second line of questionable darkness on my opk. I only started testing Saturday- CD9 and today and yesterday I am barely getting any second line at all. I had a scant amount of EWCM yesterday and today I seem more creamy. I wasn't able to temp this morning because I was taking a redeye flight home and we landed at 7am. I can't obviously temp until tomorrow morning. I'm wondering if I totally missed my surge- it would have been really early. Do opks get gradually lighter after a surge? I would be really bummed if I missed- I changed my flight and came home 2 days earlier so that my timing would be right on- I thought I was going to O on about Wednesday.

Thanks

I think your hormone levels can fluctuate during your cycle, so it's possible your OPK line can get darker and lighter throughout your cycle before getting a true positive. OPKs unfortunately aren't an exact science, though, so really the only way to know for sure is by checking your temps to confirm O.

I hope you didn't miss it, though! Good luck!

OP: I can't offer much insight b/c this is my first cycle using OPK but I could have written your post (with the exception of the red-eye) I am on the same cycle day-same issue with my lines on the OPK today too. UGH....hope we didn't miss our chance. Good luck. Will be good to hear what others have to say too and thanks for asking the question.

They do fluctuate. I can't tell you how many times I have thought..Ohhh looks like I'll probably O in the next couple days since test was alllmost positive, only to have the sucker go back to quite negative the next day.

When it is positive, you'll wonder how you could have ever wondered if it was positive or not.

exactly. one suggestion though, if you aren't already doing this- test 2-3 times a day if you are suspecting it is going to go positive (maybe like 11 am, 2 pm, 7 pm, that sort of thing.) a surge can easily last less than 24 hours, and if you only test once a day, you can miss it that way. good luck!

to all the great replies.
OPKs really only give the approximate O date anyway. You can miss the surge on a test, or get a surge and not O. They are really only secondary to temping so I would trust your CM and try DTD when it is the fertile stuff if you can't temp regularly.
good luck!

To all those who replied- just wanted to update... I don't know what happened on Saturday, but I gave up being obsessive about testing with OPKs. Tonight, on a whim, at 9:30 pm I decided to test again- I got positives with both the Answer strip and the CB digital. So, who knows what happened- all I know is I got a smiley face and I liked it Don't know when my surge started or whatever, but here it is...
