Not such a good "not back to school" day

My 8 yr old is very smart, but has PDD-NOS (which is on the Autism Spectrum). We have not been having troubles ever since we got him on a schedule. But because today was not back to school day, we played, watched TV, went out to a fun place (tunnels and pizza and such). By the time we were on our way home, he was completely melting down. He had it. He had to get home and go to his room and stay for a while to calm down (that is his "safe place" so he goes there himself when he is stressed). I guess we won't plan any more packed days like this again for a while.

Is this your first year homeschooling him? Regardless, it is a journey. Think how great it is that you are the one to see he needed to go to his "safe place". If he were in school, he may not have had that option

He may need to stick to more of a routine like you said. Are you using Pecs cards and a daily chart so he knows what's coming next in the day?

8th year homeschooling, first for him though.

What are Pecs cards? He has a list and schedule, but not a card thing. Everything is very predictable every day for him.
