Mucus Plug

Thread Starter
I am sure others are talking about it in other threads, but don't have time (or patience) to look through now.

People on #2 or more.... do you still lose your mucus plug days to weeks in advance? I am not talking about a little bit.... I am talking huge amounts all in one day.

Thanks

Not sure, but good question. I lost mine gradually with my first weeks in advance. I also began dilating around the time we started loosing it. I always thought they went hand in hand. Like as you begin to dilate, you begin to loose it, as the cervix opens? We haven't started to loose ours yet, and we're 39 weeks. We began around 37/38 loosing ours last time.

I never saw it with pregnancy #2...my water broke at 38w4days, baby was born about 16 hours later, and never a peek at a mucous plug.

With pregnancy #1, I think it came out a week or two before labor. Definitely saw it.

I've never lost all of my plug early. I don't lose any mucus plug until I'm in active labour, and I always walk around for weeks at 3-4cm, so I wonder why I don't lose it sooner?

I should add...with my second pregnancy, I was dilating in the weeks before labor (in a normal way...I think I was 2-3 cm when my water broke) and I STILL didn't see it.

I suspect it came out when I was in active labor.

DS I didnt lose it that I noticed

DD I lost it a few times before she came

This time... Im getting it, sometimes tinged with blood sometimes not, almost every single day!

With DS#1 I lost it about 3.5 hours before he was born... It was the start of my labor. Yes, my whole labor was 3.5 hours long.

So I'm not expecting to lose it until I'm in labor this time. Guess I'll find out!

I woke up with bloody show and large amounts of mucus plug with #2 and baby was born less then 24 hours later. I assume that will be the same this time. The first time labor started with my water breaking, I hope that isn't the case this time.

With #1, I had bloody show and plug the day he was born.

This one... I think I'm losing a little bit of plug every day, or is might just be typical cm. I have no idea. It's not a lot, and it's not every time, and there's no blood. It's kind of like fertile cm.

It seems like it's different for everyone. I was 2 cm dilated for a month with DD and yet didn't start losing my mucus plug until labor started.

So far I'm 37 weeks Wednesday and no sign of mucus plug. So I'm expecting that once I see the mucus plug, labor will be imminent.

I only noticed loosing mine with my second child. I had already been dialated to at least a 3 for a month before I lost it. I actually lost my mucus plug the morning I went into labor.

I lost my dd's right before labor started and I lost my ds's when I was in labor.

With my previous two it happened for about 2 weeks before labour (with my second I was 4 cm dilatedfor those two weeks as well). It has started in full force in the last week and as of today I'm 3cm. For me it is not an indication of impending labour but rather my body readying itself. Right now it is large globs about 3x/day....sorry if that is tmi.

With my first I lost mine about 36 hours before labor started and it all came out in one neat blob. I then had bloody show until my water broke the next night.

With my second I never "lost" my plug (or anything else, for that matter) at all. I had my midwife break my water just as I started pushing and it came out then. I didn't see it, the midwife disposed of it.

I have never seen any mucus plugs in 3 pregnancies. They must have all come out in labor.

I've been losing pieces of mucus all day... some bigger then others. When I lost my mucus plug with my first son it was about the size of a golf ball and bloody... this is clear (sometimes slightly cloudy) mucus. Who knows! lol

That's me exactly.

This is my 6th pregnancy, and I have only seen my mucus plug one time with the third pregnancy. tmi - One of the kids had used the toilet before me and hadn't flushed. The mucus plug came out and landed on some floating toilet paper and I saw it when I stood up. That is the only one I've seen.
