Hyperthyroidism & Natural remedies

I had hyperthyroidism years ago, basically with each pregnancy. As I was pregnant the only treatment was taking anti-thyroid medications and it worked quite well. I didn't have the time for any remedies as it came fast and severe and I needed to fix it asap as to not affect the babies.

It's been 8 years since the last time and recently I don't feel too well again. I think it was probably triggered by excessive stress a while ago. However it's coming on gradually and not too bad yet. I feel that I have the time to do a bit of research and maybe try some natural remedies. Of course I will see my doctor and get some blood tests done first to see if that's the problem. I was just wondering if anybody here have the experience with fixing mild hyperthyroidism with food or supplements. I really prefer food as I'm very sensitive to a lot of supplements. I understand most veggies in Brassica family are kind of anti-thyroid. I love all of them and won't have a problem eating them. But which one is more effective, and how much do I need to eat? If anybody have more info on those I'd really appreciate that.

There are lots of really wonderful articles over at WomentoWomen.com that are all about natural thyroid treatments. Here are two that I found super helpful: For women who use natural thyroid hormones — availability and alternate solutions and Eating to support your thyroid — simple ways to naturally preserve thyroid function

Good luck, Mama! Hope you feel better soon!

Have you tried Motherwort?
My mom has had great results with an herbal formula that has motherwort in it called Thyrosoothe.

Good luck!

Thank you for the suggestions! I took a blood test and it turned out my thyroid hormones are very very high, like 3 times the value of the upper limit of normal range. My doctor called me the moment she saw the test result and told me she needed to see me instantly. That need to be brought down asap so I'm taking anti-thyroid medication now. I wonder why I didn't feel too bad. Oh well.

One thing to look into is the discussion at ithyroid.com. The guy who runs the site became hyperthyroid and came up with an approach to treating both hyper and hypothyroid.

I had an intense naturopathic protocol for my hyperthyroidism (now turned into hypo). I'd recommend being under a naturopath rather than doing it yourself as I was monitored closely, with blood tests and appointments.

My regimen included things like an herbal tincture containing lemonbalm (melissa) among other nasties; megadosing with Vitamin A (do NOT do if pregnant); mineral supplements; complete dietary overhaul; a stress leave from work (yes).

It worked for me. I became euthyroid...then I became pregnant, which sent me back to an allopathic doctor (I'd experiment with MY body, not my child's).
