What color should I paint my front door?

We're getting our house ready to sell. We have salmon-colored brick with light grey trim and vinyl siding. We have newish windows with bright white trim. Our metal front door is off-white right now, but it's got some dings and our realtor thinks we should paint it black to freshen it up and create some contrast. I don't know about black! The door gets really hot already since it's metal and faces the sun for a good part of the day. Do you agree with black or would another color be a better choice?

With salmon, grey and white on the house it sounds like black might be the right choice.

Without seeing a picture, I would say black. It is classic, clean and versatile for resale.

Ooh, a nice glossy black sounds good. We're going to be painting our (wood) siding and I'm debating on the colour and the front door colour too. My two options are burgundy or eggplant. I tend to lean towards natural-type colours for the rest of the house but the front door should be something really bold IMO. Especially for sale you want it to draw the buyers' attention.

My best friend painted her door eggplant and it looks fabulous! It stands out, but still looks elegant.

Without seeing pictures, I'd also suggest black. I just painted my front door a nice, dark peacock/navy and I am in love. Our house is white though.

Our house is a peachy colored stucco with white trim and a black roof. We painted our front door black and I like it. Our door faces southwest and we have no overhang or porch roof so it does get really hot and fades (but it was hot and faded when it was other colors too.) It needs to be painted once a year; we are waiting until the weather cools to paint it again.

Well, I went with popular opinion and chose a black semi-gloss. It would have been tricky to choose a red because of all the orange in the brick. Thanks for helping me with the decision!
