Spotting while nursing.....return of AF?

I'm 5 weeks postpartum with my EBF little guy. He nurses on demand...no idea how many times during the day and then once somewhere in the night
between 12am and 7am. He's gaining well (bw 7#1oz currently 8#13oz).My PP bleeding stopped about a week and a half ago. Yesterday I woke up with bright red spotting. Now, 3am the next day, I just finished DS's night session and am spoting again, bright red.

So, what gives? Is this a period or what? I'd temp but there's no way I'll rember to do it before popping up to nurse at DS's wake up time (6am).

Fwiw, I've also been a total moody lady this week. I just thought DH was being an ass...maybe it's PMS?

My lochia lasted six weeks with several offs and ons for up to a week and a half.

That said, I know at least four women who had a PPP before eight weeks.

My period came back only 6 weeks after birthing my first, 14 weeks after birthing my second. Both babies I breastfed on cue (round the clock), babywore, and coslept. Sometimes, lactational amenorrhea doesn't work. Bummer!!! At least you know your body is back in working order (this is what I told myself to make myself feel better, ha!)

It is possible it is your period, but it is also totally normal to have a second wave of postpartum bleeding. Last baby, #5, I bled off and on up to 12 weeks pp and then didn't have my period until 15mo pp.

When I was postpartum after my loss last year I kinda' remember bleeding when I over did it. I just can't remember how long PP it was. I also cycled just three weeks PP...but had dried up my milk with binding, sage, etc.

I feel period-y today...sleepy, loose poop, crampy...but the bleeding has stopped. I still dont quite know what it is. My intuition is drawing a blank.

I had a period at 6 weeks after having my son, and was nursing around the clock. It does happen for sure.
