So fed up with thrush

I have had thrush in my nipples for 3.5 years. Yes I realize that sounds absurd, but its a long story but a true one. In January, saw a homeopath for it and got it treated, changed diet, yada. Treatment was 3.5 months long. Cleared up a bit but not fully. In the middle of this also did elimination diet and found dd2 has food allergies.
This past year I had a recurring vaginal yeast infections. In May gyno gave me Diflucan for 7 weeks. Nipple pain and sensitivity gone!!!!!! 1.5 weeks after finishing treatment, pain, burning, bright red nipples back again. Which of course means that dd2 has it and gave it back to me.

Went back to homeopath. He wants me to do the same treatment he gave me before but for 6-8 months. Not only is that a long time, the probiotics are expensive and not covered by our insurance here. I am thinking I will go to reg doc and get something else for me and lo. Because I AM SO TIRED OF THRUSH!!! I just want it gone. What do allopathic docs give little ones? I want to ask for Diflucan again. Can they give that to 1 year olds?

Okay, thanks for reading my vent. Any advice appreciated.

i did read somewhere that they do give it to infants. But I would ask your pediatrician. Good luck and keep us posted.

Have you tried this before? It has worked wonders for us. Dr. Newman has other information on his website, and longterm use of diflucan at appropriate levels can help clear it up too, but it does take a pretty high level for a long time.

Much luck.

Have you tried genetian violet? It's not the most attractive option, but I've known it to work on some pretty stubborn cases.

Also make sure to clear out thrush anywhere else it might be hiding: diapers, expressed milk, etc. so that you don't reintroduce it if possible.

I'm dealing with a similar issue. I had symptomatic thrush when my 22 mo old was about a month old. We did every homeopathic treatment that I researched. Ultimately we used diflucan for 10 days (both of us) and it cleared up. Never had another symptomatic problem (although I strongly suspect I had it all along even thru this last pregnancy)... Now ds is one month... I'm still nursing my older dd. She is completely asymptomatic but the baby has white patches and I am in agony... I'm headed to the pedi today and honestly I don't want to deal with all of the other treatments. Call me a wimp but I want to just do the diflucan and call it good... but that would require treating me, my 22 mo old AND baby... uggh.

Hope you get some answers and get it cleared up soon!!

Hey mama. Big hug to you! My lo and I have had thrush for over a year now. We've tried elimination, candida diets, gse, gentian violet. Nothing worked, well ... the candida diet made a small dent. My ped gave me and him diflucan for one month which really reduced it. But still didn't eliminate it. Anyhow, short answer: yes. Babies can have diflucan. But not all peds will prescribe it. I had to see two doctors before one would write the prescription. I am with you, nothing works like diflucan on stubborn yeast.

HTH!
