GAH! Keeping walls clean?

So we've moved into a house that I love. I have a great interest in keeping it looking as good as I can. My kids, my boys especially (6 and 10) have a horrid habit of touching the walls (like running hands along when walking down the hall, etc...) though they have gotten better. The smudges on the walls makes me bsc. I have no problem washing the walls down, the thing is that the paint is a very matte finish so it is not as easy as with other finishes and sometimes things don't wipe away easily. We are renting so painting is not really an option. Is there any way to keep the walls looking decent?

My mom used to put clear contact paper on the walls down the hallway where we would run our hands. Also, she would put it around all the lightgswitches and doorknobs.

i found baking soda gets dirt off of matte paint well.

my apartment has semigloss, which is slightly easier... but i have no real advice- I seriously find myself washing the walls a little bit every day. drives me batty.

we also have white kitchen cabinets! ahhhhh

i was always able to get paint from the landlord/office when i rented. it's just cheap paint and often used as it is easy to do touch-ups.

Yeah, I would suggest getting a sample size of the same color to do touch ups when need be. I did this for our living room that has flat paint and it worked wonders!
