Drying in the winter

So this might be a question for a Mindful Home. If it needs to be moved, thats ok with me.

We live in the country and we try not to use the dryer as much as possible. Plus, from what I understand it wears the diapers out faster. I currently hang dry the prefolds, inserts, covers, and homade wipes outside on the line. It works great because it's 90+ almost every day.

My question is- Should I hang dry everything inside during the winter near the woodstove or should I just use the dryer on everything but the covers. I dont want to put the covers in the dryer because I dont have a low heat setting. I am kind of afraid of what the woodstove heat will do to the PUL fabric. Anyone done this before?

TIA!!!

yeah, I think I'd keep the covers/PUL a bit further away from the stove if I were you. They would dry pretty quickly anywhere in the house I think - I hang mine to dry inside when we have rainy days and I use the dryer for the diapers (need to get a drying rack set up *sigh*)

I have a line on the covered back porch for rainy days, but it doesnt work if the wind is blowing.

:sighs: too. I also need to get a drying rack.

I just have a cheap drying rack that I hang everything on. I find that everything dries much faster in the winter because of how dry the air is, rather than the high humidity we get during the summer. I need to put the inserts in the drier during the summer, since they take over 24 hours to air dry.

Ok, so I also called a couple of ladies I know IRL who use wood heat and cloth diapers. Apparently the dry air from the wood stove doesnt do well with the elastic on thirsties, but didnt do anything to the BG covers.

I have decided to get a wooden drying rack to have in the room, about 5 feet away from the stove. Also, a friend of mine told me that she washes all her prefolds and dries them in the dryer about once a month, so they will get all fluffy and absorbant again. I didnt know I was supposed to do that. So, unless someone tells me its useless, I guess I will use the dryer every now and then to fluff them back up.

We just hang our covers to dry inside over anything that is around. Or just lay them out on a table, works fine. We usually use the dryer for the rest of the diapers, if we can't hang them out.
