Colorado laws for age...

I just read the Colorado Homeschooling Law and couldn't find at what age you have to start letting the school district know that your child is home learning?? Anyone know this? I thought I had read before that it's age 7. I sure hope so because my dd1 will be 6 in 9 days and we didn't let anyone know anything for this year. Thanks!

You're fine until next year I believe. We use an umbrella school and I asked about dd2 who will turn 6 in October and they said since her birthday fell after the start of the school year then we can wait another year.

The laws are a little complicated. A couple of years ago they were changed because the compulsory attendance age was changed from 7yo to 6yo. But homeschoolers got an exemption to this. So legally they don't have to be doing any school work until the age of 7, but I think you still have to report at the age of 6 so they aren't counted as truant from the public schools.

Also, we do have the option of reporting to an umbrella school and not the district if you'd prefer that. Mine keeps all of my records on file and we do our testing through them too.

Here you go... Option 1, Letter C states that if they are six before August 1st then you have to report that year.
