Mw choice

So I had a fabulous CNM for my first two births, she was awesome and comes in for me even when she's not on call, etc. At my second birth, she had a student with her (a Rn who was becoming a CNM). First mw stopped catching babies for a few years to get her phd, so I had mw #2 (student of #1) for my third baby. She was great too.

With #4 here, I made an appt with mw #2 b/c she is in town and since I had her with #3. Now, I found out that mw #1 is catching babies again since she has completed her phd and is the director of midwifery for a major university nearby. She catches at a hospital about 20 minutes away.

How do I pick? I am low risk all around, the worst complication that I have had was GBS (3rd babe) and heavy pp bleeding and clots. I love them both and it's a hard choice.

Any advice?

take the one who is closer by...the drive will be short and that will be better.

That is a hard choice. I would go with however you are the MOST comfortable with. I don't have any other advice other than that. Good luck momma!

See... if I had to choose between my doctor and my midwife (luckily that will never be a choice as my doctor is in illinois and my midwife is in NC lol) I would basically be in your shoes.

I love my doctor and I love my midwife.

But I think, in the long run, I would go with my doctor again. Not anything against the midwife whom I have grown to adore as well, I just have more history with my doctor... she was the one that got me into being a natural mommy and not thinking I absolutely needed a hospital birth (yes! A DOCTOR talked me into home birthing because I was a perfect candidate for it, a nice low risk mommy)

the choice is going to have to be made, obviously, so its best to choose how YOU feel is best. Do you have more of a connection to one over the other? Is one more convenient than the other? Is one more anything than the other and you happen to like/dislike that quality?

I love them both!

#2 is closer, the hospital is 5-10 minutes depending on lights, #1 is about 20 mintues away.

#1 has more experience and she is the mom of one of my sister's best friends. She was very encouraging when I was a first time mom wanting no interventions and no drugs.

#2 helped me through my most difficult birth by far, I was stuck at 8 cm for over 6 hours and I am sure I would have faced c/s pressure from many providers at that point. She has also moved around a lot in the past 5 years, I thihnk she has been with 4 practices.

It was easier when I htought I only had one choice!
