Should I stop eating dairy right before the baby is born? (x-posted to Allergies forum)

I found that if I ate dairy while BF'ing DS1, he got really sick. He spit up anyway until he was about six months, but when I had dairy the spit up smelled worse and he looked really miserable. (He's back on dairy after his first few years off it, though now he's off gluten and corn.)

So I'm wondering if I should just start avoiding dairy before this next baby is even born, and maybe just trial it at some point. WWYD?

I am biased because I don't believe we should ingest the bodily fluids of other mammals at all (now, but this is a recent understanding). Dd1 was sensitive to dairy and I stopped obvious sources only. dd2 I quit soon after birth when I saw she had the same thing. I would recommend you go dairy free (even hidden forms) as soon as possible (like now) If you really want to eat dairy, when the baby is a few months old you could eat one serving and see what happens. Hopefully from a grass fed organic local farmer, and raw... but I say stop it even while pregnant (I believe in GFCFSF) and then trial it after baby has some size and you guys are used to each other.

Honestly, IMO theres a jump to conclusions around here in regards to dairy/wheat/gluten/etc intolerance... Its like if thers any little thing wrong, everyone just jumps to 'well, cut out dairy/wheat/gluten/whatever!!' as if its the obvious answer... and I just dont' think its nearly as common as some people would like to think.

Which is a really longwinded way of me saying, no I wouldn't. Both my boys are fine w/ milk/dairy/everything else. If you see problems, its certainly something to try, but I don't see hte point in looking for problems where none exist, personally.

I see your point, but my SIL has confirmed celiac, my sister gets a rash and migraines when she eats gluten, my DH gets depressed and stomach pains when he eats it, and when my son accidentally eats it now he gets an itchy rash. Also, corn makes my son break out in goosebump-type things all over his body and he has night terrors. And another sister has all kinds of allergies.

So...I guess what I'm saying is that obviously there are issues on both sides of our families and personally I've seen the benefits of cutting certain things out. It's not the end-all-be-all route to good health, though.

My DD had a dairy intolerance (until 2-2.5 years old). I did not avoid dairy with my second and he has no issues with any food intolerances.

I wouldn't cut out dairy. Your experience with your first taught you what to look for, so that if your second has the same digestive issues, you'll catch it much sooner and can just go off dairy then. But children are often very different from each other. My first had a dairy intolerance (that she outgrew in her third year). My second LOVES dairy. His world would seriously be a darker place if he didn't have cow milk, in his eyes.
