From where do you buy your yarn?

I am wondering from where you all buy your yarn??

I'm looking for sources of inspiration!

(I've been buying my yarn at Michael's and Joann's because it's so much cheaper than the specialty stores in Seattle.)

If you have any on-line sources, please share!

I really love knitpicks. I have bought from Elann a couple of times. Hobby Lobby has a good felting wool that with a coupon ends up being pretty cheap. Ewephoriayarns.com used to be my lys- she had amazing prices on specialty yarns.

That is so funny you mention Holly Lobby. I was just in Michigan visiting family and went for the first time to Hobby Lobby. I did buy some really beautiful yarn there for $2.50 a skein. What a deal! I don't know where there is a Hobby Lobby in Seattle, though!

I get most of mine from hyenacart. You won't find any super cheap yarn, but the artistry is amazing.

I've gotten a few things at walmart - bernat softee, peaches'n'cream, lion tweed stripes, caron simply soft. A few things at Hancock Fabrics - lion wool, lion cotton, lion wool-ease, and some lovely stuff at the LYS - so far just berocco comfort as I'm knitting for people allergic to wool. I got some wool on sale at Hobby Lobby once. If I still have the budget for it in a month or 2 I hope to go back to that LYS for some Cascade wool and some Rowan kidsilk haze, maybe some alpaca stuff. And I make a wishlist at http://knitpicks.com regularly but that purchase will wait til next year I think.

I love to shop local, but sometimes the savings/ greater selection online just wins out!

So- I'll second (or third?) the knitpicks.com recommendation. Great basic worsted weight wool (wool of the andes) and some lovely higher end stuff if you're interested (I love gloss) they even have an organic cotton. Plus lots of really cute patterns and books and the NEEDLES, OMG THE NEEDLES! I have the wood interchangable set and it is the BEST gift I have ever gotten in my entire life. You know how sometimes you really want something, and then you get it and it's a bit of a letdown? Not as wonderful/ magical/ special/ worth the money now that you own it?? The needles were NOT like that at all, lol. I was a bit worried that they would be and then I'd be bummed that my wonderful partner had spent $75 on knitting needles that I didn't really need and likely wouldn't use... but they are fabulous and I got rid of all my other needles and even learned to magic loop so that I wouldn't have to use any other needles ever.

Whew. Lol.

I've also bought stuff from WEBS (yarn.com) and been pleased. Oh, and littleknits.com too- good prices.

I buy my yarn at thrift stores (good for small projects), Lens Mill, and the Yarn Factory Outlet where they make Bernat, Patons, Phentex and Lily.
