Motherwort & Pregnancy?

Hello,

My name is Emily and I am almost 38 weeks pregnant.

Before this pregnancy I had horrible PMS that left me feeling out of control and anxious. I used motherwort for this and it helped me greatly.

I know that it's contraindicated to use during the first two trimesters but I'm curious as to the safety of motherwort during the last month? I have that same anxious feeling that I had with my PMS and I'm very hopeful that motherwort tincture can help me with this too.

Anyone else used it late in pregnancy?

My understanding is that in late pregnancy it can't be harmful..but I do know its not recommended in the 1st two trimesters.

If you are feeling like you need it, I say use it. That said, my midwife has cautioned me that it should not be used for longterm. Supposidly It can get addictive.

I know that it is super useful in those stressful motherly times, I have used it quite a bit in the last few years..and I have some in my birth kit for after-pains and PP in general. I think it also helps to tone the uterus, like RRL..

Im wondering if there are other remedies that you could use along with and or in place of MW. flower remedies can be amazing for anxiety and so can some homeopathic remedies.
i can look into it more for you if you want.

here is some info..

I have not, but here is a site with a list of herbs and which should be avoided during pregnancy. I did read an article that said it should be safe to use during the third trimester but have no personal experience. If I was you I would talk to my HCP/midwife.

I just looked in all the books I have, and the consensus seems to be that it's safe, even recommended for many of late pregnancy through birth and afterbirth ailments. The dosage is given mostly in tincture form, so I don't know if that means the body responds differently to tincture than to other forms of ingestion...it's recommended for use as an infusion, for instance, as an emmenagogue, to bring on menstruation, before pregnancy, avoiding pregnancy.

One caution was to not overuse it after birth because it could worsen bleeding (if used in excess, it was actually recommended to help calm the system after birth).

I also read cautions about its addictiveness. ...Must be good stuff!

I used it for anxiety/sleep from 38-41 weeks w/ my DD with great success. I'm super irritated that I can't use it again for like 30 weeks myself
