I just started (and finished) watching Coupling thanks to this thread- I am in love with that show! the only downside is that there are so few episodes.

My family loves:

The Mighty Boosh
Snuff Box
Ab Fab / French and Saunders
Red Dwarf
The Young Ones
The IT Crowd
The Vicar of Dibley
Black Books
Little Britain
Catherine Tate
The Good life
Blackadder
The Goodies
Ripping Yarns

I used to find Birds of a Feather really funny.

We also love Dr Who but I wouldn't call it a comedy.

What other British comedies do you like? DH and I recently discovered The IT Crowd on Netflix, but there are only 18 episodes (hoping season four will become available soon) and we've watched them all. I usually find British comedy funny, but not hysterical. The IT Crowd has actually made me physically fall over laughing, and the same for dh. I occasionally hate myself for laughing (or at least think I should), but it's just too funny. I'm hoping I can find something else that makes me laugh so hard.

It will be out on DVD in March and I'm not sure how long we'll have to wait for Netflix.  I think BBC got it right when they make small series rather than long seasons where shows often get stuck and boring.

Misfits! We have been watching this on Hulu. There are 5 episodes up and a new one comes on each monday. It has some language, so beware..

Not sure if Doc Martin qualifies as a comedy, but it's at least a dramedy. A friend of mine turned me on to it after we'd gone through all the Coupling and IT Crowd episodes. We really enjoyed it.

irish not british, more a drama than a comedy but still pretty fun-- ballykissangel.

A film, not a television show (but I watched it on t.v., so hopefully it counts), that I recently watched was Death at a Funeral. For some reason, I was not at all interested when it was released a few years ago, but I caught it on Netflix and enjoyed it.

N.B. I think there was a Hollywood re-make a year or two after the British release. I haven't seen it, so can't comment on how well it was done.

I'm British so I guess my views on things are different, but I love The Inbetweeners, Spaced, The IT Crowd, Peep Show, The Royle Family, The Thick of It, Sherlock (although not technically a comedy).  The Inbetweeners can make me cry with laughter, but I think that's because I grew up in England and the characters are exactly like the boys I went to school with.  My American husband is non-plussed by the whole thing.

Strangely, I cannot stand Keeping Up Appearances or AbFab, and Benny Hill makes me feel ill.

We just started watching Friday Night Dinner on BBC America.  Super funny!

Sorry I've Got No Head is a family favourite here! Every once in a while we just all sit around the box and laugh our head off. We often follow it up with some Doctor Who. British TV Night orngtongue.gif

Good stuff.
