Liquid smoke....is it ok??

I found a yummy looking recipe for barbecue sauce that apparently is not worth it without the liquid smoke. I've never used this but read a bit about it just now. Is it ok? I mean, it's like your eating condensed smoke!? Not sure if that's something I should be concerned about. Anyone?

Well, like anything else, read the ingredients. Some are just condensed smoke. Some contain all sorts of yucky ingredients. I don't have a problem occasionally using the former, but I avoid the latter.

The Liquid Smoke I use (and have only ever seen) is all natural. It's "Liquid Smoke" by Colgin and the ingredients are water, natural hickory smoke flavor, vinegar, molasses, caramel color, and salt. The caramel color could be iffy as an allergen (depending on how it is made). It's all natural, but obviously processed.

I use this product occasionally, too. I am ok with it.

Thanks! I guess I'll give it a try & see what comes of us. Ha!

I use the Colgin one as well, just in moderation. I wouldn't add it to everything we ate or anything, but I occasionally (maybe 4x a year?) make a pork roast and use about a quarter cup.
