At 41w 4d, I finally started labor. I slept between contractions for a while and decided they seemed to be persistent enough to pay attention and looked at the clock at 3:57am. They were about 10 min apart for all the time I was monitoring them, which was until about 5:45. I checked in with my midwife at about 5:15 to let her know they were happening, and again just before 6, when she convinced me she should probably head over, and would be leaving her house about 20 minutes later. I got off the phone, and promptly vomited while simultaneously having my water break. A couple more contractions and I managed to get downstairs, realizing the baby was coming down. My midwife got there about 6:30 or so, where I was on hands and knees hoping the tub might somehow be filled in time. My body had started pushing, though I couldn't quite believe it was all happening so fast. At some point the second midwife also arrived, and they talked me through the delivery, baby born at 7:07, only a little more than an hour and a half after I decided I was really in labor!
I am amazed and grateful to have only a minor skidmark tear (after a 3rd degree last time) and a labial varicosity that seems to be making progress toward hopefully resolving on its own. Baby is wonderful and calm, and a champion nurser. Her big sister is adapting, while obviously feeling a lot of feelings, she is very sweet and gentle with her new little sister.
