Keeping barn cats out of the garden

Any tips for keeping your barn cats from using the gardens as a litterbox?

We used some wire mesh (used for concrete reinforcement) over the raised beds while the seedlings were little. It can probably just stay down but we pulled ours up after awhile (but you can't wait too long!) We used it to keep the chickens from scratching them up.
