Homemade Miso Soup--how hot?

I want to make sure that I'm not killing the live cultures by heating too much...I've been heating water in my tea kettle, pouring into a cup, letting it sit a minute, then stirring in a spoonful of miso...how do I know if the water is still too hot??

Hmmm...well, I thought the brand I bought at Whole Foods--I think it's called Miso Master--had live cultures...it's organic, says it is fermented, unpasturized...do these types of miso not have the live cultures?? If so, where can you usually find that kind of thing??
