Silly question about IUD removal and insertion...

If i get my IUD removed, get pregnant and after I have the kiddo, can i just have the removed IUD reinserted?

I know this is an odd question but I have only had the IUD 3 months and it's still got a few years left on it's life...right?

I paid so much for it, i feel really weird just tossing it.

LOL! Um, I just wanted to see what your question was, but now I can't leave without replying.

I Googled (after seriously considering what wording to use!) and the answer seems to be "no". You can't reuse it. You'll have to buy a new one.

The most common reason given is sterility ... if you reuse an old IUD it could be contaminated, etc, whereas a new one is sterile in the packaging. I don't know why an IUD couldn't be sterilized though. The other reason seems to be that it's um ... bent? ... a little after insertion and removal, and if you were to reuse it, you could possibly have a higher risk of tearing due to that.

nope, can't be reinserted for the reasons stated above
