Question on Flavored Cod Liver Oil

Hi all - I am about to purchase some fermented high vitimin cod liver oil from one of the WAPF recommended vendors. As I was perusing their websites, I noticed that they offer flavored options.

What do you take? Do you like it flavored or unflavored? If you like it flavored, which is your favorite? I know sometimes flavoring can be just as bad as the unflavored variety (like cough syrup and such). I just don't want to waste my money since it is so dang expensive.

Also - how long does it last you?

Thanks!!!

I have the orange emulsified fermented clo. I can take it, but the orange flavor sort of burns me. I take it squirted in the back of my throat and chase it with orange juice. I can stand it, but because of the flavoring, I have only given it to my baby once. He screamed and I can understand why.
I also have the cinnamon gummy fish which are mostly too hot for my toddler. She can stand about 1/3 of a gummy.
I wish I had ordered plain. Not tasty, but who would expect it to be?

If only they still made the kind of clo my mom used to take as a kid. She said it tasted exactly like lemon cream pie! She begged for more everyday!

Thanks! I wondered whether the flavored kind might not be worth it. Can I mix it in a glass of milk? Does it need to be taken straight?

I like the orange the best myself. I was under the impression that all the fermented kinds have a bit of a burn to them.

Well that is helpful, thanks! I appreciate the insights.

I take cinnamon and chase it with coffee - by far the best and easiest way for me. I got orange for dd and she took it for quite a while in mango juice but is currently refusing it.

I am not a fan of the flavored kinds, burns to me too. We just stick to the original!

Thanks for the great advice. I am so new at this TF lifestyle. So much of what seems to be essential foods are so expensive. I know it is worth it, I just don't want to waste my money!

We hated the orange, but the kids love the cinnamon. They take it straight and I can take it but chase it with milk. They also love the gummy fish.

So I bought the unflavored kind. It smells disgusting, and tastes tolerably disgusting.

I was reading today on the WAPF website that cod liver oil isn;t really effective without butter oil. Do any of you take butter oil as well?

There are two places I read this on the WAPF website.

Here is the first:

Quote:
Dr. Price always gave cod liver oil along with high-vitamin butter oil, extracted by centrifuge from good quality spring or fall butter. He found that cod liver oil on its own was relatively ineffective but combined with high vitamin butter oil produced excellent results. The butter oil contains what he called Activator X, now considered to be vitamin K2, which works synergistically with vitamins A and D (see Chris Masterjohn's article "On the Trail of the Elusive X Factor: A Sixty-Year Old Mystery Finally Solved"). Your diet should include sources of vitamin K, such as good quality butter from grass-fed cows and/or high-vitamin butter oil, fat from grass-fed animals, cheeses from grass-fed animals and duck or goose liver, along with cod liver oil.
In this other article from the WAPF website, they talk about high-vitimin butter, not butter oil. A little confusing. I am guessing that pasture butter will achieve the same results. But them maybe there isn't enough of the activator X unless it is concentrated in the oil. Not sure.

Whenever taking cod liver oil, remember the findings of Dr. Price. He noted that he did not get good results from cod liver oil unless he gave it concurrently with high-vitamin butter. Just why this is so is a matter of speculation, but we do know that the very unsaturated fatty acids found in cod liver oil cannot be effectively assimilated and stored in the tissues without the presence of adequate saturated fatty acids, the kind that would be provided by butter. This means that even regular butter would help support cod liver oil therapy; but Price found that the combination of cod liver oil with high-vitamin butter, from cows eating rapidly growing green grass, was nothing short of miraculous, reversing tooth decay and bringing patients back from the brink of death.
