Pretend Meat Rec's? Or other proteins?

Our 3yd would really like some pretend meat for his play. Wouldn't hurt to have a fish/tofu/beans too. Pretend quinoa I draw the line at. Can you imagine picking it up? =)

Most of the stuff on the market looks pretty dire and we prefer not plastic/not MIC. Can you recommend anything? I see that plan toys has a set now. (Probably the source of the request-- we saw it at the toy store and DS picked out something, but keeps mentioning) Anyone have and can review?

Haba has a few things but the cloth items are generally made in China and again, I prefer to avoid. Maybe something from etsy?

I'd like something smaller scale but we have an infant too who loves nothing mouthing play dough and other tasty things so it can't be too small. =(

How about some felted, knitted or crochet toys? I don't have a specific source, but I'm sure a search on Etsy would turn up a number of artists. The Waldorf and natural toy suppliers probably have a lot too.

A few years ago, i bought my nephew an adorable wooden sushi set, but I'm afraid I can't recall the maker.

For beans, why not just use dried beans? There's such a great colourful assortment - kidney, black, canellini, borlotti...

There are several sets on the market, I'm not sure exactly what you are looking for.
My son loved his 'melissa and doug' sets. I think they still make a sandwich set, sushi set, pizza set etc. You can also make or buy crocheted/knitted sets or felted sets of food on Esty, ebay, or craft fairs. Trust me those are not that difficult to make and do not take that long.

A quick search shows M&D have a stir fry and kabob(grill) set too.

Sometimes I had luck going into a 'teachers' store or learning store. They had great stuff in there $$ but great stuff!

I know I'm not allowed to link to my shop, but I sell felt play food on Etsy. Feel free to shoot me a pm if you'd like a link. I do custom work.

We ended up buying the Plan Toys Meat Set which was a huge set. Nice quality and you can "cut it" which DS loves. We also got this little pheasant from etsy which is super cute: http://www.etsy.com/listing/37709753...ant-or-chicken . I also got the Haba fish/meat/kabob stuff but when it came I thought the other stuff was cuter and duplicative to boot so it went into the future gift closet.

Thought I would post if anyone searches this topic in the future.
