I took a whole bunch of books there and got maybe $5, sooo not worth it. They only want new, hard to get hold of books.

We have sold to them a few times and the money is ok. It is really easy though and quick cash and that is why we do it. I don't have time to list, e-mail, ship, etc...

I sold a bunch before we moved overseas. This was last September and my offer was pathetically small. You can always turn down the offer and take your books back. I asked the guy about it and he said that they (Half Price Books) have been getting so many books in because of the economy that the offers are really low.

I use them because they take ALL THE BOOKS, so I'm not stuck taking them back home or taking them to the donation center. However they pay a pittance. But you need to realize the economy is in the toilet and many people are moving and need to declutter, or people just need cash and this is a way to do it.

What I've noticed is I can take a huge box and get a $5 offer or I can take a small grocery bag and get a $5 offer. So over the summer DS was doing the kids reading program where he got a $3 coupon each week and I would take in a few books, He would get $3 and I would get about $5 - I would take no more than 10 books (usually popular fiction, paperbacks).

I seem to have some luck with www.cashforbooks.net for the huge pile of non-fiction books that we have. Every so often I will run the ISBN's and they accept some. Since Im basically unemployed I have nothing but time on my hands and inputting ISBN's costs me nothing from the comfort of my house. Again the website is hit or miss but they do pay better whey its a hit.

I sell on Half.com if I can before I go to a site like this.

However, I have sold a few books to this site before, personally, wasn't worth it, i would rather just donate to goodwill or the like.

but selling on half.com means I have to hold the books in inventory and in turn ship them out on a sporadic basis.

if you have the time and space to keep in inventory, half.com is well worth it to me, but then again I don't list any books that I won't make at least $2.50 on, if it's going to net me less than $2.50 a book, I send it to Goodwill.

They are better for newer books- I sold all my twilight books as i read them and got more than i paid for some of them (bought em used).
I took a bunch of books i've gotten free throughout the years- stuff my mom picked up from garage sales for 25 cents. I have gotten as little as 5$ and as much as 40$. I do it mostly to declutter.
