Gestational Diabetes and UC...

Would you still UC if you had GD? What precautions, if any, would you take. Things like that.

I'm still considering having baby here at home unattended.

Assuming you have it under control whether by diet or meds then I wouldn't worry about. Just don't forget to eat/drink/take meds accordingly while in labor and make sure DP knows where everything is as well as emergency numbers to reach any doc if it were to get out of control.

I had GD (controlled) with my last pregnancy and uc'd a perfectly healthy baby. She and I did just fine.

I kept mine under control w/#5 with diet. I UCed without any problems. I'm keeping it under control now with diet and expect it to be fine with #6 also

T o be honest, my diabetes isn't always all that controlled. I have used both dietary changes only and medication to help keep it in check. I have had 2 uncomplicated UC births.

I hope so! DH just climbed on board at 38wks. My induction is scheduled for next Friday. He came home and I cried for ever when I told him about it. He put his foot down and asked me "What do we need to do this here?" He knows they've been setting me up for a c/s since I went in for my first prenatal.

DD's labor was lonngggg 30+ hours long and I fully expect this one to happen the same way. There's no way they'll let me labor that long without a FTP if I'm at the hospital.

I decided not to test for GD this pregnancy and if I lived closer to a hospital I would UC w/o knowing if I have GD or not.

I would. And I wouldn't even bother with testing. I personally don't trust the test anyway.

I just uc'd with #5 2 weeks ago. Kept my numbers under control with diet and exercise. It was very hard, but worth it! Education is the key. Know all the things that can possibly go wrong and be prepared to deal with it. Everything turned out fine for me. My labor took a little longer (3 hours) due to a larger baby. With patients my babe was able to get in the right position and we avoided shoulder dystocia. All stats were great. Next time I will have an easier pregnancy, because it will not be new to me and I will not battle with so much negative comments and info others felt was their obligation to share with me.

Thank you for all the comments! I am not 100% that I am going to UC this baby. But I won't know my decision until I'm in the moment. Ya know? I want to labor at home for the whole labor and have this baby here at home, but if I want to go to the hospital to finish, I want to be fine with that decision also. But I do want to have all the information that is there before I go through with it.

Sorry for the thread-jack, but had to comment on this. My (hospital) labor with dd#1 was a horrible, excruciating 31 hrs. My uc birth with dd#2 was an easily-managed 3 hrs. For me, uc'ing made all the difference.

I just went to those websites after I read the link and LOVED it. I had a midwife appt at the clinic this past Monday (before I had a chance to read the links) and I am being transferred to the OB care at our military hospital with an additional growth scan ultrasound in addition to my NST this week. Plus an increase in my medicine. If my body responds well to the medicine and levels out then I feel more comfortable trying to have baby at home. But if my numbers are still erratic, I'm not sure what to do.
