'Throw Daisy Rocks'

Hi Everyone,
This is a kid and pet question, so I figured this is probably the best place to come to. My 2 yr old daughter's favorite activity these days is to go in our driveway and throw rocks and gravel for our shepherd dog to catch. The dog is addicted to it too. It's been a real life-saver for me, occupying both of them so I can get a few things done, like the tons of canning I need to do right now.

But...we are realizing that this is not so good for the dog's teeth...so I am in search of creative solutions to stop this behavior. I loved it also because it was a nice outdoor activity for them both. So far, I've been keeping her inside more, so I can just monitor her activity, and she's away from the rocks. I've also thought of trying to encourage her to throw dirt or pinecones instead, or perhaps some balls of some sort (we do have tennis balls, but this is not as much fun, or easily available as the rocks!). I realize also we could get rid of the gravel... that may be the solution I guess, I don't know. But then, what to replace it with? It's kinda part of the driveway.

Any thoughts or helpful suggestions for managing this situation?

Thanks!

fence off a safe area that doesn't include the gravel driveway and give her doggie toys and balls to play with the dog?
